It's time to take ACTION!

Elected representatives are supposed to represent US, but in order to do that, they need to hear our voices. They shouldn't be making decisions that affect every aspect of our lives without input from their constituents. To facilitate communication, the South Carolina Libertarian Party has created this platform for ALL South Carolinians to contact their reps on issues that we feel have significant impact on our individual liberties.

The most effective way to have an impact is with a letter, a phone call, and then an email/contact form, in that order. Often it will be an intern or clerk taking phone calls, but they keep counts of people contacting them for or against legislation. When they start getting hundreds of calls, they will take notice!

SC House Bills

H. 3033: Judicial Elections, lawyer-legislators

Summary: "Require attorney-legislators who sit on the SC Judicial Merit Selection Commission to recuse themselves from vote and screening of judges or justices they appear before or have appeared before."

Our analysis: It is imperative that our judicial selection process not be affected by outside, professional interactions. Impartiality is critical.

Deadline: October 22, 2025

H. 3125: Elimination of individual income tax

Summary: "To eliminate the state income tax."

Our analysis: The SCLP supports removing taxation, however this bill would end up as a tax INCREASE for lower-income South Carolinians.

Deadline: End of legislative session

H. 3298: Overtime income tax exemption

Summary: "A bill to exempt overtime income from certain taxes."

Our analysis: No analysis yet.

Deadline: End of legislative session

H. 3424: Property tax relief for seniors

Summary: "Increase the property tax exemption amount for seniors with homestead property from $50k to $1M."

Our analysis: This will bring significant tax relief to seniors in South Carolina who are hit with inflationary taxes.

Deadline: End of legislative session

H. 3643: Voter registration, party affiliation

Summary: "Limits who can vote in party primaries, requires voters to declare party affiliation, shortens candidate filing periods, and imposes filing and certification fees on all candidates."

Our analysis: This bill would require Libertarian and other 3rd party candidates to pay filing fees to run for office, which would create an undue burdern on them and deny voters candidates to vote for.

Deadline: December 30, 2026

H. 4022: Instant Runoff Voting

Summary: "A bill to authorize use of Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) or "Ranked Choice Voting.""

Our analysis: Ranked Choice Voting would have a significant impact on voting. I would alleviate the "wasted vote" feeling held by many voters and allow for more choices, more voices.

Deadline: End of legislative session

H. 4529: SC Save Our Venues Act

Summary: "Undo/amend 2017 law that places undue burden on establishments who serve alcohol."

Our analysis: SC has placed an impossible burden on local restaurants causing insurance premiums to skyrocket. Insurance companies should set their own rates based on their assessed risks.

Deadline: October 31, 2024
